Description

This gorgeous climber is one we are often asked for.

Narrow drinking-straw rhizomes pop up here and there as it meanders around the shady, leafy or dappled spots that it so likes. It climbs delicately, almost unseen, then bursts into masses of vivid vermilion flowers in summer. Equally bright blue berries follow.

Never ill-mannered here, I wish it were more rampant. Very attractive and ideal in cool, humid conditions. These are nice rhizomes  but they still look like wizened bits of small, white twigs, that is just how they are!

Plant horizontally about 3-4 cm deep in a humus-enriched soil and leave them to establish.
