Description

One of the earliest-flowering of the Tulipa species, (the picture here was taken on February 21st), this is a cool-growing alpine plant with one (and sometimes up to four), smallish, golden yellow, fragrant starry flowers.

It is a dwarf species making its blooms close to ground level on a stem just 10cm high. The exterior is shaded with a trace of orange on a silvery ground, especially towards the tips of the petals.

Excellent in a pot but tough enough to survive a choice garden spot, where it does not need annual lifting. Scarce.

Found in Tajikistan, C. Asia this is raised from a collection made in 1982 and received here under the number RM.8295 Hodji-obi-Garm, Tajikistan.
