Description

Originally found in Iran on the Rudbar Pass (this is the Rudbar in Gilan province not the one in Kerman Province) , towards Zinjan (Zanjan) at 2200 m, by Daan Smit, formerly the curator of Amsterdam V.U. Botanic Garden, in spring 2004.

This is a true wild form with very dwarf stems, bright magenta flowers and a central hint of steel-blue deep in the throat, with navy anthers.

Very hardy, as you might expect given the altitude of its wild home, this has proved to be a very dependable form her, thriving equally well outside in a south-facing raised bed and plunged pots both outside in a frame and under alpine glass. It is worth noting that this makes noticeably smaller bulbs than other forms of this species.
