Description
(this is forma citrina, syn. Tulipa confusa)
A little gem barely in cultivation but one which is very deserving of attention.
A stem of 25-30 cm (this is at most, it is often dwarfer than this we find), carries a 6 cm flower of gorgeous, deep primrose yellow, a rare colour within species Tulipa. Easy growing and very different in appearance. Suitable for a pan or pot under cold or alpine glass or a well-drained garden spot in fertile soil, sited in full sun.
Endemic to the Karabakh range in what is now Armenia and Azerbaijan where it grows on stony mountain slopes at the edge of forests.
This is now a new stock and not the old horticultural stock that we used to offer. These plants are traceable to, and propagated from, a collection made near Shushi in the disputed region of Nagorny Karabach in the S. Caucasus.
