Description
Wood Merrybells
Stems up to 60 cm with oval perfoliate (stem-surrounding) leaves, which are minutely hairy below. By May each of the upper leaf axils holds pendant, 5 cm yellow bells with smooth, slightly twisted petals. This is the largest of the Uvularia species and forms tight clumps in time (rather than running around).
A tough plant which revels in the light woodland conditions beloved of Trillium and their ilk, for which it makes an excellent companion plant. Eastern USA.
