Description
Uvularia perfoliata is often confused with Uvularia grandiflora, as both actually have perfoliate leaves. (perfoliate means that the leaf circles the stem). However Uvularia perfoliata is shorter in stature and rarely reaches 30 cm tall, usually less.
In comparison to grandiflora, perfoliata has paler flowers which are inclined more towards straw-yellow than citron yellow. Its has non-hairy leaves and the petals have rough glands on the inside. The leaves are not hairy below either.
This is easily grown in a leaf-rich or humus-rich soil in half shade. Rather than clumping like grandiflora, it is mobile and the new shoots form a short distance from the old roots, which later die away annually to be replaced by the new ones.
