Description
This has to be one of the finest of the large ball headed Allium.
Stems from 6-75 cm tall hold a huge – 15 cm – ball of violet flowers. Each bloom has conspicuous white styles and a white centre, giving a superbly contrasted, two-tone effect. As a bonus, the leaves remain green during flowering, a rare but useful garden feature.
Makes large bulbs which increase only slowly. Stock directly traceable to Per Wendelbo’s original 1962 collection in the Bamian province of Afghanistan. (you may find this wrongly listed as a form of the totally different rosenbachianum).
Well drained fertile loam in full sun, dry in summer, for best results.
