Description

(Allium cupuliferum of horticulture, misnamed)

A lovely species with quite inconspicuous foliage which consists of just two narrow prostrate leaves.

These leaves are made below a  flexuous stem 20-50 cm tall which carries a dense, tight umbel of quite large, (15 mm), flowers of a good, deep pink. Each bloom is cup-shaped and upwards-facing with stiff, well-coloured petals. As the globe ages, the short flower stalks curve up further, and elongate, giving an unusual appearance.

A very decorative and well-mannered plant.

Loam based, garden soil and will grow outside, in full sun, if given good drainage and a dry summer rest. Equally good under glass in a similar compost and with similar conditions. Hardy.
