Description
A creeping deciduous species with soft green leaves produced at the end of the tightly growing rhizomes.
The flowers emerge in spring with the developing leaves and from round white buds they quickly darken to their normal deep brown, with a fringe of tiny hairs at the edges and the petal faces covered in diffuse paler patches.
The name geophilum means ‘earth loving’ which tells you where the flowers will be found, down at soil level, but this is common in the genus anyway. Planted in a pot or pan, this is a constant source of amusement when in flower.
Leafy, humus-rich, well-drained soil in half shade when in leaf. Easy.
