Description
This species is both clumping (in time) and evergreen. It bears strong, heart-shaped, shiny leaves which when mature are about 8-10cm long by 6-8 wide at most. The leaves are patterned with zones of paler colouring and flecked with white and pastel green. Below, almost at compost level, sit trilobed flowers of purplish brown.
As the name might suggest it hails from Kyushu, in Japan though it is rarely reported there and indeed, it seems to be one of the least well known Japanese Asarum species generally.
