Description

A superb Japanese species from Yakushima (island) and nearby Tanegashima. The name of Yakushima is synonymous with good garden plants, this one is no exception.

Gorgeous, glassy-shiny, evergreen foliage, varying from plain or speckled, ‘snowflakes’ or zoned with various, sometimes striking, patterns. This forms big husky clumps of leaves which are attractive no matter what the leaf type.

The flowers are large, some 2 cm across and are basically black but with a thick, highly carrunculated rim in green. All-in- all an excellent garden plant as it holds its leaf condition well into the autumn, when other Asarum are starting to go dormant.
