Description
Asarum sakawanum has larger flowers than many species with longer petals which are more widely separated. This clone Ginseihou (we think this name translates as Silverback) has nicely patterned leaves which are well marked with a splashes and zones of silvery-green with a few smaller splashes, or spots, here and there of silver, all over a darker ground.
Though the leaves are good this clone is selected for its greenish-white flowers, which are lovely. The flowers are albino and have lost their purple pigments, so they present as white to whitish-green. They are typical sakawanum, in both size and shape, except for the lovely, pallid, flower colour. The petals are hardly folded along the edges and they stick out in a very straight fashion, giving the appearance of a Japanese lantern, but lying on its side.
A lovely albino cultivar, different and distinct from the other forms both of sakawanum and albino Asarum generally, whilst still sharing the same flower colour, or lack of it!
