Description

Asarum sakawanum has larger flowers than many species with longer petals which are more widely separated. In the variety stellatum the longer petals are elongated and they are longer still, giving the starry appearance alluded to in the name.

This clone Sekiryumon (an approximate translation may be ‘Crimson Dragon’) has lightly patterned leaves with diffuse zones of silvery-green with a smaller silvery white splashes, here and there on a darker ground.

The clone is selected for its starry, deep red-crimson to almost black flowers which have a sharply contrasted white-green edge along the petals. The centre of the flower is carrunculated, with the warty-looking tissue arranged in broken, sometimes paler, concentric rings around a darker mouth.

On of the best contrasted red and pale clones of sakawanum and like all members of this species, the flowers are of a good size for an Asarum.
