Description

A little seen and most uncommon species which is, in the wild, limited to a few islands around Shikoku, Japan.

The evergreen, thick, shiny leaves are large and rounded and are clouded in paler green and silver, with sprinklings of white here and there, like stars (hence the name).

Although this is prized for its foliage, the flowers are very unusual. They are sooty black with the three lobes elongated so that each is the shape of a wizard’s cowl, with the edges picked out in white.
