Description
(Crocus cancellatus damascenus, C. edulis, C. dianthus)
It has been very many years since we were last able to offer this distinctive, starry form from the Petra region of Jordan, with violet flowers and a white throat contrasted by finely divided orange-yellow styles and yellow anthers.
Below ground the corms have a remarkably coarsely netted tunic.
Quite widespread across Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Israel but equally this is quite rarely seen in cultivation. It is readily grown and propagated in a loam-based compost with good drainage and good sun. It does like a warm, dry rest in the summer though.
