Description
Narrow wiry leaves and starry flowers, typically in a unique shade of wine-purple in October. I use the term unique – meaning, there is just nothing like this one – read E.A. Bowles from 75 years ago and he raves about it even then!
Free-flowering but this needs a bulb frame or alpine house to give its best where it enjoys a loam-based soil in full sun. It is not one for the garden really, as it is used to a very dry, almost desert-like environment, that we simply cannot provide outside in the UK.
Pedigree stock raised from material collected by J. C. Archibald in S. Turkey in 1973 and thus this stock is naturally variable and it does contain a full spectrum from rare whites through purples to deep shades.
