Description
Discovered in the Taurus Mountains of Southern Turkey in 1994. The only locality is a guarded secret and these corms are seed-raised, traceable to the original find by Erich Pasche and Helmut Kerndorff. The start of our stock (also seed-raised) was received from Erich back in the 1990s.
Large silvery, soft violet-blue flowers with a small golden throat and yellow anthers with prominent, slightly drooping, trifid, red-orange styles. The exterior of the flowers is also slightly silvery and the narrow foliage has a conspicuous silver stripe. The appearance and the aspect/shape of the flowers makes this one instantly recognisable.
Despite its rarity and relative newness, this is proving to be a very manageable species in cultivation and it makes a very good display each spring, outside here. Needless to say we still do not have many, but after many years work the stock is now larger and the price is lower than when it was first introduced.
