Description

A new Turkish species, described only in 2013, though as is often the case, it was known before it was named. In the wild it grows in the Kayseri province of Cappadocia in Turkey and its companion plants (Anemone blanda, Scilla ingridae and Hyacinthus chiophyllus) give some clues as to its habitats and requirements.

It make 3-7 leaves in spring, along with 1-3 flowers. The leaves are unusual in having up to 4 ribs in the leaf channels. The flowers are of palest blue-tinged white, each with yellow anthers and an orange-red style. On the outside of the flower, there is a trace of light blue or greenish blue and even a little feathering on some individuals. Inside the flower, the throat is yellow.

Readily grown in a fertile, loam-based compost under glass, though this is still too rare to be risked outside. The wild habitats suggests that hot, dry summers will be needed for correct ripening of the corms, though it equally suggests that the species should be cold hardy.
