Description
This originated as a seed collection made by Ernst Marcus (his number EM.1486) in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, SE of Hunsar, 2600-2800 m, May 2000.
The seed was raised to flowering and eventually, in 2014, the best, deepest red one from the flowering stock was selected for further clonal propagation. That said, the colour does not come out out very well in the picture being a little too orange and too pale (and throw in the usual disclaimers about colours varying between monitors etc.). What I can say is that it is a better red than the photograph suggests and it is the best, intense red-orange that I have seen in the species or any of its already selected colour forms such as “Rubra“.
Introduced to our listings in March 2025 (24 years and 10 months after the seed was first found!)
