Description

A vigorous, pure yellow selection of Fritillaria kurdica spotted by Dr. Arnis Seisums among hundreds of ordinary-coloured individuals in Armenia , E. Ehegnadzor in 2009.  Initially there was just a single individual found and just one bulb was sampled. We show a picture of the original plant in the wild, for your interest. There is no doubt whatsoever as to the species as the yellow plants grew amongst a colony of hundredes of other “typical” kurdica (for this locality) with no other species involved. We have also put a picture showing the typical dark form in this colony.

This does not form tiny offsets and in fact it hardly forms any offsets at all, thus the original bulb has been patiently increased by manually splitting the bulbs in half each year, until a reasonable number of clonally-propagated bulbs has been produced. (Seedlings are NOT entitled to the clonal name). We have continued with Dr. Seisum’s annual splitting of mature bulbs to clonally propagate this fantastic plant.

This is a lovely Fritillaria, which is both slender and floriferous with strong and healthy,  green foliage on compact stems (in good light) crowned with one to several, good-sized flaring bells of beautiful primrose-yellow. Inside the flowers are lightly veined with jade-green. I have not seen anything even remotely like it and it is very beautiful.

Selected by Dr. Seisums in 2009 and subsequently named and introduced by ourselves in 2019. Prior to this the clone has not been released or offered anywhere and as far as we know we are still the only source.
