Description
Short stems with narrow, whorled leaves and a lovely bell of polished purple-brown with darker chequering. The flower is normal-sized although the plant is small and slender, making a garden-worthy combination. On paper it sounds a little like Fritillaria camschatcensis perhaps, but it is nothing like that species and is perhaps more like a dwarfed, brown Fritillaria thunbergii.
This needs a cool, damp, peaty soil which does not get dry in the summer. It also relishes cold winters, but is not a plant best suited to pots, it likes to be out in the garden. Siberia.
