Description

Raised by James Allen of Shepton Mallet in the 19th century and one of the largest of all of the nivalis clan, when established.

Strongly reminiscent of Magnet (and indeed Magnet is frequently sold under the name of Galatea) with its lovely, long hanging pedicel which carries the blossoms perfectly. However a major difference is that Galatea is scentless whilst Magnet is strongly honey-scented. Galatea has a perfectly proportioned and balanced flower with a very abrupt change of angle in the lovely long pedicel, which carries the hanging flower (red circle in picture). This is a feature only when the flower is mature and compared to a mature Magnet, as Magnet is also quite abruptly bent when the flower is young, though Magnet’s curve softens with maturity.
