Description

This is a vigorous hybrid with the inner segments so heavily marked, with a big, green, elongated “X”, that there is very little white visible on them.

Robin Hood opens its flowers soon after the shoot emerges and the sight of the large fat bud between the newly expanding leaves is very characteristic and one of the joys of early spring.

Our original plants came to us as a gift from the garden of a good neighbour, but in time it became obvious that the plants had seeded into themselves and thus ours were not 100% true, nor constant.  In fact we got one exceptionally good seedling (which we have provisionally named Bonobo) from the mix  and we have cloned this up here, though we have not yet offered it.  Getting back to the subject – we replaced our ‘Robin Hood and his Merry Men’, with Robin Hood proper obtaining documented, clonal material from an AGS exhibitor, but it is obvious that even true material does vary just a tiny bit from year to year and from plant to plant and even between different flowers on each plant (for it often bears more than one) which may have very subtly different markings. However they are all basically a big green “X” with the portion closest to the base of the flower being slightly paler and the stock is true! Striking, reliable and lovely.
