Description
A rare and significant Snowdrop cross. This fabulous plant is a cross between Galanthus plicatus Trym and Galanthus elwesii and it was found by John Morley in the garden at North Green in the 2001. He considered it as the first significant hybrid between these forms.
It has strong, convolute leaves which set it aside on appearance from many of its Trym cousins. Like the foliage, the flowers are large and strong. The outer floral segments are flattened and rather spoon-shaped with a strong, elongated green mark towards their apex. There is also a fainter mark towards the base of the inners. This is only present sometimes, or some years, and its visibility is related to the degree of establishment of the plants. When present it extends from the very base of the flower to the edge of the green mark on the inners, it lends a yellow or apricot cast to the inners, just visible in out picture. With age the flower flares open and sideways, changing its appearance considerably, but also enhancing it (as in our fourth Gallery picture).
A superb new introduction, one of the best of the clan which bear Trym-like markings.
