Description

(much more frequently seen under the apparently incorrect spelling of “Trymposter“)

When it first began to appear in cultivation, Trym caused something of a sensation, as it was, then, an entirely different type of flower structure for a Snowdrop. Today, many of Trym’s offspring, presumed offspring and seedlings have been raised and cloned, so the appearance and characters of its flowers are not now quite so unusual but it all started with Trym, which was discovered by Jane Gibbs in her garden at Westbury-on-Trym near Bristol.

Trympostor is a seedling selected from Trym by Avon bulbs. It has outwardly flaring flowers, which I have seen, very aptly, described as looking like a ‘Pixie Hat’. With age, the outer petals curl both outward and upwards accentuating its unusual appearance, even for a Trym seedling.

There is a large, green, heart-shaped marking on each of the outer petals mirrored by a similar mark on the inners. In both cases the green is also visible through the petal on the inside of the flower.

This is also proving to be more vigorous than its parent from which it also differs by being a little dwarfer and much earlier into flower.

Like many seedlings bearing plicatus in their breeding line, this prefers a soil which does not dry out too much over summer
