Description
Large, white, multi-petalled flowers with the petals overlapping and also folding down a little on themselves, an effect more evident in older, more mature, flowers.
The anthers are partially mutated into petalloid structures, but this is not a full transition and in the larger, outer whorl they do retain their anther shape and colouring. The inner anther whorl is more true to shape and size, but the tips bear (sometimes fertile) sacs of deep violet. The overall appearance is perhaps a little shaggy and tousled but this is the plant’s attraction, enhanced by an amazing overlay of long, silky hairs in the centre of the flower (see close up picture).
A new plant to our lists in November 2017.
