Description

(magnifica x bucharica)

This combines arguably the two best and easiest garden species of Juno. Normally crosses involving magnifica can be too tall for the weight of the flowers and thus they flop, however this clone is strong and stout.

The flowers are pure white with a strongly contrasted, lemon-yellow patch on the blade and it is hard to over-stress the very “clean” nature of the colouring. There are up to 7 flowers on each 35-45 cm tall stem.

Originally found in Brian Mathew’s garden, as magnifica. An offset was passed by Brian to Tony Hall at Kew (to whom this stock can be traced.). It was during repotting Tony realised that the rootstock had little to do with magnifica. Later chromosome studies confirmed the parentage of what turned out to be a magnificent hybrid. This is really good, rich, free-flowering and gives a good garden performance in unfavourable weather conditions.
