Description
A rare species characterised by large bulbs, broad pale leaves and stout hemispherical flower stems. These stems bear from one, up to 16, flowers, composed of broad white petals and an entire (not cut or lobed) pure white corona. In a way they resemble N. papyraceus but the flowers are smaller than in that species and they look different, despite both having white cups and petals. (comparison with N. papyraceus is here). Seldom seen and, sadly, when encountered it is can often turn out to be mis-named papyraceus.
Grown here under glass in a loam-based compost and can be potted also, but it does need feeding in pots if you wish to maintain size and get increase. This not do well outside, other than in a Mediterranean climate. A classic, dry summer rest benefits flowering.
Authentic cultivated material traceable via a chain of growers, back to an old Moroccan find.
