Description

An original cross made in horticulture between romieuxii selected from JCA.805 and the petunioides form of cantabricus from John Blanchard provenance.

This new strain is both vigorous and also slightly variable as might be expected, since the parents in effect re-create the original Tom Blanchard cross from which Taffeta, Jessamy, Muslin etc. were selected (leaving Nylon as a name for the variable balance of seedlings). Some have lovely, pallid, sulphur-yellow flowers toning to deeper yellow in the throat whilst in others, the flowers are quite low on the ground and of a darker yellow shade. The edge of the trumpet can be smooth or randomly ragged, especially in the bud stage.

Like normal romieuxii these are borne very late in the Autumn, if the bulbs are planted early enough in the season. Normal September planting means slightly later flowers and they will then bloom comfortably after Christmas and this can be extended into early spring, if they are planted in, for example, late October (as well as sporadically, regardless of planting time). They can also, we have found, be kept dry until as late as Christmas before planting, in which case you will get flowers late in February and into mid-March.
