Description
A stunning clone from Japan within a superb and rare species of Asarum which is very rarely seen even within Japan.
The flowers on this form are inflated and externally they are coloured like the skin of a black grape. The very thickly-textured petals are ruby-red with a deeply carrunculated ruby-red throat and they are held, stiffly, at an angle to the tube, making the flower structure very pronounced. There is simply nothing else like this species. The flowers are large and sit at ground level, in spring, below the remains of the previous season’s foliage, which is replaced soon after by new growth.
Not difficult under standard conditions for the genus, in a well -drained but humus-rich, fertile compost in part shade. However this is also happy grown under alpine glass if you prefer.
