Description
(Asarum macranthum)
Asarum taitonense is an endemic of Taiwan, considered by some to be a synonym (along with A. albomaculatum and A. imfrapurpureum) and by others (presumably the people who actually saw the live plants)! to be distinct.
This is a semi-running species with distinctive matt-finish to the evergreen leaves which are about to 10cm long. The leaves are more or less always distinctively patterned, usually in a very unusual yellowish-green with darker patterns overlaying the base colour. It looks a great deal better than this sounds (see our other picture of the plant actually in leaf). A rare beauty in cultivation but a vigorous grower, possibly happiest in a pot under alpine glass.
