Juno Iris
The Juno section of Iris is surely one of the loveliest and contains some of the most challenging species as well as many easy garden plants.
In Europe and North Africa there is but a single native species, Iris planifolia but as the section reaches Turkey and the Middle East then the range of species both increases, and becomes more exciting and colourful. In Iran, Afghanistan and central Asia reside some of the most colourful and diverse species of all.
Most Junos require good drainage. Many of the drier desert species need only a little water even when they are growing, between about November and April. Most of these dislike water on their leaves for any length of time and they dislike humid, muggy air during the winter. In complete contrast, the more water tolerant species can be grown outside in the garden. Log into the members area for more detailed cultural advice on juno section Iris.
